Origins

Our fishing vessels work out of Exmouth, Brixham and Newlyn, and operate in accordance with the Seafood Responsible Fishing Scheme. They keep us well topped up most days with a selection of fresh fish and shellfish, and a catch can often be on its way to the Greendale farm shop within hours of leaving the sea. If we can’t catch it ourselves, we source only from trusted suppliers with standards as high as our own. The fish available may vary, depending on the season, but a delicious variety is always to be found on our fish counter. From whole fish to fillets, live lobsters to shrimp, our wide selection is sold in a choice of portion sizes and prepared for your convenience by our skilled fishmongers.

Fishmonger's Tips

Prawns (and their crustacean relatives) turn pinkish-red when cooked because they contain biochemicals that react to heat. Lobsters, Crabs and Prawns all have a pigment called astaxanthin in their shells, which is hidden by a coating of protein while the animal is alive. Cooking destroys the protein and releases the pigment, hence the colour change.

How to Cook

These Ladram Bay Prawns are supplied cooked and ready to use. They’re perfect for a classic Prawn Cocktail; simply peel their skins off, reserving a few whole to use as a garnish, and then pile them on top of crisp, shredded iceberg lettuce and slices of cucumber. Serve with lemon wedges and a dish of Marie Rosé sauce.

Click & Collect FREE - Order online and collect from our Farm Shop, on the A3052 Sidmouth road near Exeter. Collection options include ‘Same day’ (orders placed by 12pm), ‘Next day’ (orders placed by 2pm) or ‘Specified day’ (up to seven days in the future).

Local Delivery £4.95 - We offer a local delivery service for customers living in the EX1 to EX15 postcode areas. Choose from ‘Same day’ (orders placed by 12pm), ‘Next day’ (orders placed by 2pm) or ‘Specified day’ delivery.

Standard National Delivery From £7.95 - Order before 2pm and receive your items the next day, between 8am and 8pm. You can also specify whether you’d like it delivered in the morning or on a different day (Tuesday to Saturday).

Fresh Greendale Produce - Meat and seafood will be bagged and ready to cook or freeze on delivery. All fresh meat and fish will be vacuum-packed and labelled with use-by dates and a suggested frozen shelf life. Packaging or labelling may change depending on preparation or delivery limitations. When the meat or fish has been packaged it is immediately placed in an insulated polystyrene box and surrounded with chilled gel-packs to keep it cool and in perfect condition.
