Origins

Our fishing vessels work out of Exmouth, Brixham and Newlyn, and operate in accordance with the Seafood Responsible Fishing Scheme. They keep us well topped up most days with a selection of fresh fish and shellfish, and a catch can often be on its way to the Greendale farm shop within hours of leaving the sea. If we can’t catch it ourselves, we source only from trusted suppliers with standards as high as our own. The fish available may vary, depending on the season, but a delicious variety is always to be found on our fish counter. From whole fish to fillets, live lobsters to shrimp, our wide selection is sold in a choice of portion sizes and prepared for your convenience by our skilled fishmongers.

Fishmonger's Tips

These mussels are supplied live, having been flushed with oxygen before being sealed into their pack. Refrigerate them and keep the pack sealed until you are ready to cook them – when you need them, open the pack and rinse the mussels (don’t soak them, as they may die from lack of oxygen). Discard any mussels that won’t close - live mussels will close when tapped - and then cook. *If all the mussels are closed when you remove the pack from the fridge, it’s likely that they have ‘shut down’ due to the cold, rather than died. Give them a rinse (don’t leave them in water) and let them come up to room temperature, then give them another quick rinse and stir them up gently with your hands. You can then check to see if they close when tapped.

How to Cook

It’s hard to beat the classic French dish, Moules Marinière, in which the mussels are cooked in their shells in a sauce of onions, garlic, white wine cream and parsley

Our delivery service operates overnight for your next-day delivery. If an order is placed before 2pm, fresh produce from Greendale’s Farm Shop can be delivered to your door the next day. You can even specify whether you’d like it delivered in the morning or on an alternative day (Tuesday to Saturday). If you live in the East Devon catchment area, why not order online and collect from our Farm Shop. Click here for more information on our click and collect service. You can select from the following delivery options:

  • Standard anytime delivery - Order before 2pm and we’ll send out your fresh Greendale produce on an overnight service to be received the very next day between 8am and 8pm. Order over £75 and receive free delivery.
  • Morning delivery – Need your order in the morning? No problem chose our morning delivery service and receive your parcel between 8am and 1pm.
  • Saturday delivery – If you need your Greendale produce on Saturday there is a cost of £15

Click and collect

If you live in the East Devon catchment area, why not order online and collect from our Farm Shop, located on the main A3052 Sidmouth road south of Exeter. You can use our click-and-collect service to make sure you don’t miss out on the best cuts from our Butchers or our freshly caught fish of the day. Whether you’re ordering in your lunch break and collecting after work, or browsing and ordering from home and collecting your shopping during the school run, our Click and collect service is there for your convenience. You can order online, collect your order from the shop when it suits you – and perhaps take a relaxing break at our Farm Shop Café, too.

 Packaging

Meat and seafood will be bagged and ready to cook or freeze on delivery. All your fresh meat and fish will be vacuum packed, all labelled with use by dates and a suggested frozen shelf life, packaging or labelling may change depending on preparation or delivery limitations. Once the meat or fish has been packaged to keep it in prime condition we will place it into an insulated polystyrene box. The produce will be surrounded with chilled gel packs to keep it cool and in perfect condition.
